About The Norwegian Railway Club

What is the Norwegian Railway Club?

The Norwegian Railway Club is a non-profit organisation independent of railway companies and independent of political fractions founded 22 may 1969. Its main goal is to act as a forum for persons interested in railways. The Club has 11 subsidaries nationwide. There is a close contact between the NJK, the NSB, the State museums and other railway clubs. Membership is available for an annual fee of NOK280 ($45) which includes the quarterly NJK magazine "På Sporet" (On The Track). The magazine is an excellent source for news on all railway activities going on in Norway but it is also an excellent opportunity to learn Norwegian. The pictures are nice. The main activities of the NJK are:
  • Maintenance and restoration of historic trains, buildings and lines related to the Norwegian railway history
  • Operation of museum/veteran trains
  • Arrangement of excursions to places of historic or current interest to the development of railways in Norway. Sometimes these trips include the use of veteran trains.
  • Operation of the longest museum in Norway - the 26km museum line called the Krøder Museum Railway Line.
  • Operation of the Garnes - Midttun Museum Railway Line near Bergen.
The NJK mainly concentrates its activity to normal gauge issues. There are other railway clubs that solely works with narrow gauge.
